About Me

One of my main passion's in art is sketching. Not much beats the initial thrill of the preliminary work when the ideas are coming and I am visualising all the possibilties that can come from a single sketch. One of my main sketching times is when I am travelling to and from work on the bus. Of course travelling to work on the bus is the one of the most mundane and annoying things a human being can ever do. What kind of person would enjoy staring at the back of anothers head while the man in the seat behind is coughing on theirs? Just me then. I guess what I am trying to tell you is that with the sketchbook and the pencil in my hand, the most mundane aspects of my life can become thought provoking, energising, vibrant, inspirational and enjoyable. I passed a two year course at Bradford College of Art with distinction for my work but unfortunatley could not afford University. I was always a passionate oil painter at heart but since my time at Bradford College I have enjoyed using print and experimented with many drawing and print techniques and medias. I particulary enjoy taking an initial sketch and the sensation of being inspired to make an abstract painting or print from it. I love the experimentation process and the freedom this gives me. Much of my work is developed from quick sketches, I try to be spontaneous when sketching and not too detailed as this gives me many ideas and possibilities to work from. I have a part time job in order to support myself and my daughter Rowanne. This guarntees that we have some financial security while I am also working as an artist. I have converted my living room into my studio in order to save money on renting a premises in which to work. This also keeps me inspired in my own home and gives me the advantage of being able to work whenever I please.
